It is thanks to the complicity that linked Empress Farah to Frédéric Mitterrand, her long-time friend, who unfortunately passed away in March 2024, that it was possible to publish Farah, a book of photographs on the life of the Empress of Iran.
Empress Farah is one of the most remarkable personalities of our time. It is thanks to the complicity that linked her to Frédéric Mitterrand, her long-time friend, who unfortunately passed away in March 2024, that this book of memories was able to see the light of day. The Shahbanou opens her heart to us and shares the great hours and upheavals of the reign of the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza, whose wife she became in 1959 and continues to defend the reign and the memory, with a dignity and courage that compels admiration.
She carried out considerable cultural and social work alongside the Shah and, forced into exile, tirelessly pursued her task despite the sometimes dramatic circumstances that marked her life. In this book, in the form of a final tribute to the man who was her friend and who patiently collected the unpublished photographs it contains, the empress punctuates the pages with handwritten commentaries. They give the whole thing a very personal dimension and allow him to convey his hope that one day “Iran will rise from the ashes”.
