National Museum of Women in the Art

On April 25, 2014, the National Museum of Women in the Arts celebrated its 27th Anniversary with a black- tie Gala and Auction entitled: Nine Thousand and Nine Hundred Nights…A Special Night to Salute You! Our Patrons, Our Members, and Our Friends. Upon arrival, guests had the opportunity to view Work by Hand”: Hidden Labor and Historical Quilts, an exhibition that provided a rare look at superlative examples of two centuries of American and European quilt making from the Brooklyn Museum’s renowned decorative arts collection. After viewing the exhibition, guests moved to the collection galleries for cocktails and our silent auction.

This year, the museum was delighted to welcome Her Imperial Majesty Empress Farah Pahlavi to serve as the 2014 Spring Gala’s Honorary Chair. As Empress of Iran, Her Imperial Majesty was an enthusiastic supporter of women’s rights, education, culture, and the arts. She also helped establish several museums and cultural institutions. Today, she continues to actively support these worthy causes. In honor of her dedication to women and the arts, Spring Gala Chair Annie S. Totah and NMWA’s founder Wilhelmina Cole Holladay presented Her Imperial Majesty with an Award for International Cultural Patronage.Since 1987, the museum has been at the forefront of garnering appreciation for the wonder of women in the visual, performing, and literary arts. Proceeds from the Spring Gala help support the museum’s exhibitions and educational programming.
